Cotoneaster (Horizontalis?)

My first time of asking ..........................
I have a Cotoneaster - Horizntalis? - under my lounge window.
It has grown up above the window sill and is getting too wide too.
When I went to start cutting it back into shape I found that it is growing away from the wall.
If I prune it I also think it's going to look a bit bare towards the wall.
Has anyone any suggestions?
I don't want to loose it as it is a lovely feature in the garden.
Instinct tells me it needs tie-ing into the wall and then pruning a bit now and a bit later, but I really don't know.
