Hi all would appreciate any advice anyone could have on the possible problems my father in law s Camelia is suffering from ?As you can hopefully see the leaves are turning brown and it looks like it's going to need life support before long 😞 We are up here in the North East of Scotland and although it's been reasonable weather lately a few weeks ago it was very cold but not frosty and there has been very little rain also ,it is in a pot and was a bit dry so I gave it a drink , a few of his hydrangea leaves have went the same way , leaves curling and turning brown, any advice greatly appreciated, thanks 😀

  • As with my tulips my camelia is looking very unhappy/ needing help. It flowered beautifully and then kind of collapsed.

There seems to be a combination of issues there. It looks wind scorched as well as possibly damaged sitting in full sun for too long. Are they placed somewhere too exposed and in full sun? They prefer cooler semi-shaded areas, like a west or north westerly aspect.

Check that the soil is ericaceous soil. The leaves look a tad yellow and may not be happy in that soil.

It has been quite windy and dry recently. That may mean you have to keep an eye on watering too.

Many thanks Borderline , I know it is eracacious compost but I think it's a mixture of all the other possibilities you mentioned,we had a hot weekend last week and they were out in the open in full sun ,also got a blast of very cold wind the previous week's like I said ,change of position I think and a refresh or the compost and a good feed .  Many thanks 😊😊

It looks like a magnesium deficiency. An occasional feed with Epsom salts should sort it, although it’ll take a wee while to regain its lush shiney green leaves.
