Plot sharing with Dahlias

I have a plot designated to Dahlias but it is vacant between November and May and would like to know what I can grow here before planting the Dahlias

    I always have loads of tulips for cutting... then when they die down, I just pop in my dahlias. Most of the tulips come back again the following year, albeit weaker / smaller ... (but that doesn't solve the problems of having nothing in during the winter months...!)

    Kale? Start in pots in August.
