Help me identify shoots coming up in my lawn

I have a ton of these little shoots coming through the grass all over the lawn.  Can anybody help me identify them?  They don't look like Japanese knotweed to me, luckily (this is what a neighbour suggested), but maybe some kind of tree?  They are easy to pull out at this point, just wondered what they might be, how they got there and what I should do about them.  Thanks

Sycamore seedlings? Looks like a bit of a job but I would certainly pull them all before they have a chance to get established.

As @Hostafan1 says, mowing will sort them out at that size. But don’t leave it ... get it done ASAP.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.

  • We thought we were so clever growing these trees in our little gardens when we were children (4 of us), Dad even had two of the trees transplanted to the border of a field.

Now I realize just how easily they grow and how much of a nuisance the big trees are with the sticky sap that falls on parked cars.  GET RID of them a.s.a.p. as Dove says.
  • Thanks for the info and advice - much appreciated.
