Plant or weed?

Hello
This plant has the head of a poppy but I can't find a match for it in a search .Don't recall seeing it last year, though it was probably buried under weeds! Any thoughts please?

No longer newish but can't think of a new name so will remain forever newish.  B)

It certainly looks like a poppy, but l see what you mean about the leaves. Is this of any help?

True, just in the wrong place, or, more correctly, not where we pesky humans want them to be ☺

  • I've got two other types of poppy in totally different areas of the garden and it's nothing like either of them .I guess I may have to wait till it flowers and hope I spot it in time!

It looks like the Welsh poppies that come up in my garden. In which case it will be yellow or maybe orange.

I would say welsh poppy, I treat them as weed in my garden.
  • Lovely! Will be harvesting the seeds to spread in dreary corners. Are they best just sown fresh or should I keep the seeds till spring?
