Hibiscus clumping shoot tips?

Hi everybody.
I have an unusual problem with my hibiscus Oiseau bleu, it is forming into clumps at the growing tips as shown in the pictures. it is around 15 years old and has been pruned regularly to keep to a limited size. the problem has been around for 4 or 5 years and is getting worse, Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

    That flattened stem forming the cristation at the top may be attributable to the above .
    Hope this answers a few questions you probably have .

    I think this is an example of ‘fasciation’.

    Hi Posters, thanks for the heads up to fasciation, looks like it is the case with my plant,
    I feel it is holding back the full potential of the plant and I may consider replacing it. I have other hibiscus plants dotted around and the show no signs of the problem, yet.

    We have just adopted a Hibiscus that appears to have the same problem. 

    Can I ask what happened to yours? How did it do last summer? Or did you replace it?
