Hi all.  These plants were looking happy a month back but now are getting a bit brown and the flowers on some of them are fading.

Any ideas?

  • You probably have to show us a close up to judge better...but it could be over watering that has caused it. Lavenders thrive on benign neglect, no need to feed or water frequently, just lots of sun and unimproved soil seems to be just the ticket.

  • Sorry yeah wasn’t the greatest photo… So it’s a mixed free
draining container with lavender which is suffering less and a different plant with a coloured daisy type flower, which is the one browning.  I don’t actually know what it is. Here is a close-up.

I think your flowering plant is a Moroccan Daisy, Rhodanthemum Hosmariense. Very tricky plant to grow if there is too much winter wet. I had one a few years back and it didn't last the winter, due to the excess rain we had.

You will need to prune them back like how you would with lavenders. Never into the woody sections. Best grown in very free draining soil against a southerly wall to keep the wet off it. Otherwise they rot at the base.
  • In this case the soil was bone dry but not sure right at the base.   I haven’t watered that container much at all (planted them late last year).

It doesn't look too bad at all. Just need a light cut back to rejuvenate the whole plant. So long as it's in full sun, and the soil is free draining, I think they will be fine.
