Weed identification

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me what this is and what the best way to get rid of it is? It has sprung up very quickly at the edge of a bed in my very small front garden, and I am a complete novice gardener.

Looks like vetch. You can weed it out by hand easily enough but it's quite a nice plant and good for the bees.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

    Lovely flowers
  • I think I have a variety of this, comes up with purple flowers if I leave it, but it's a devil to dig out, has fine roots that go on for miles, coming up at the next plant somewhere across the border.  I had a Google earlier but none of the sites mentioned whether it should be easy to dig up.  I tend to dig mine out before there gets too many plants, simply because it is invasive and difficult to dig up.  If it came up easily then I might consider leaving some of it.  Google did say there are lots of varieties of it though...
No longer newish but can't think of a new name so will remain forever newish.  B)
