Newly planted clematis

What can I do to save my newly planted clematis? Leaves has small holes and are purple/Browning.

    I shouldn't worry about it too much. Have you planted it deeply and watered it well. It needs 2 gallons (big watering can full) twice a week in warm weather. You also need to very carefully cut the blue ties off the stems and gently retie with twine. You also need about three taller canes in a fan shape behind the plant and keep retying the plant to the canes as it grows.  Hope this helps, good luck.

    Looks like too much Nitrogen in the soil, what have you planted it in ?

    I'm in NC. Heavy clay soil. Amended with claybreaker that contains compost.
