Codling Moth Deterent

Hi,
Last year my Braeburn apple crop was badly infected by the Codling Moth inserting its' grub into a lot of apples. Can anyone help and advise how to deter these moths and when is the best time to do it. The tree is just coming in to blossom.

Hello Keith. Try not to spray the blossom as you may kill useful pollinators. There is a moth trap you can get that attracts the male codling moth using something that resembles the female pheremone. They fly in and get stuck but you have to be careful not to catch any little birds. Less males to mate with the females means less eggs to hatch into the grubs. As well as the pheromone traps, if you hang a fat ball in the trees, it attracts tits, who pick off insects while they wait their turn.
