ID my shrub/tree

What is this shrub or tree I have grown? I found it in my previous garden - just a twig with a few leaves - about 4 years ago. I knew I was moving so I potted it up and planted in my current garden 2 years ago. I thought it was an apple or other fruit (from pips or stones I had thrown out the back door!). It is now about 5 foot tall and this year for the first time (right now) it has these strange "flowers" which look like cones but they are very soft. They are green and show no sign of changing colour. The leaves look like apple tree - slightly soft and furry. Any ideas?

Thanks nutcutlet. I knew I could reply on you! Been searching for a while to try and find it. Think it might be the Woolly Willow looking at a website http://www.luontoportti.com/suomi/en/puut/woolly-willow looks most similar but not sure. At least I now know not to expect any fruit from it! LOL! X
