Acer
Hi
I would be grateful of any advice regarding some acers in my garden. We have 3 beautiful acers, 1 tall tree and 2 low spreading ones, not sure of specific variety. they have always flourished since we’ve lived here but this spring they don’t seem to be looking too healthy.
All 3 don’t seem to have as much foliage and the leaves are slightly discoloured compared to normal and underneath on the two bush shaped trees a number of the branches seem to have died - no foliage and are brittle, very pale in colour.
i admit we’ve never watered them as they’ve always looked after themselves but I wonder wether they suffered with the extreme hot spell of last summer?
we plan on trying to give them more attention in the warm weather this year but I wondered if we are best trying to cut back any of the branches that appear to have died?
thank you very much in advance

Probably best to keep them watered as best you can this year and prune in Jan but no later than Feb.
The variety may be something like Acer palmatum Dissectum Atropurpureum
Billericay - Essex
