Young Tree, What To Do?

Last year i found this little tree growing behind my shed,i think its an oak tree. I couldn't bring myself to just pull it up and bin it so i potted i up and put it in a corner of my garden. Now i'm wandering what to do with it as my garden is too small for a tree that will one day end up a big tree. There is a local wood with oak trees in it and i was wandering if i could get into trouble if i planted it there,anyone else done this.


Also while im here can you id this plant, save starting a new thread.

    I don't know about your tree.. it is a shame to waste these.. I've often thought about planting something wild in a hedgerow that I can't have here.. but I've not done it... 

    Your other plant is Exochorda macrantha 'The Bride'.. and very nice it is too...

    Do you have a local Wildlife Trust?  They might have an area in need of trees...
    Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

    If you keep it in a pot, that will naturally restrict its root growth but it does seem rather a shame to do that for an oak. I donate my tree seedlings to a local tree charity so there may be one near you.

    You can grow a fairly large bonsai oak tree in a pot. It'll take a bit of work and attention but they make lovely characterful trees when they get older. I've seen really stunted, sheep pruned oaks growing in rocky outcrops in the hills around here and I've always thought about trying it.
    If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

    Yes Lizzie i do feel it may be a shame to restrict such a lovely tree
