    Pitter-patter - I think you are right! I did have gypsophila in that spot, though it never seemed to perform very well, perhaps because it was crowded out. I am sure that's what it is. Thank you so much (and for going to the trouble of posting a photo), and thanks to everyone else - I love the way people are so helpful to others on this forum.

    You’re welcome @Pot herb. 😊 I’ve grown one last year and I bought some more bare roots this winter to mingle with a rose. Looking forward to seeing them in flower.

    I remember buying a white one years ago and a pink one a few years ago, and although they do flower each year - albeit, a little pitifully - I can't ever recall seeing the leaves before, or associating them with gypsophila. I didn't know you could buy them as bare roots, I think mine were in 9cm pots at the time. Yours should look beautiful mingled with a rose. Will you post a picture later in the season?

    That would be lovely, and now that I know what it is, I'll move the gypsophila to a more suitable position before it settles in the new site. Thanks again for your help.
