    Thanks for all your great answers, will see if I can do anything with it, none of the other seeds came up so I binned em, open to suggestions as to where I can pick up some decent flowering cactus seeds.

    Just so you know you can get successful cactus seeds on eBay... my little boy got some last summer, and about 10 have made it so far. They took about a month in the airing cupboard to germinate, and it’s a slow slow process. This is how most of them look now, coin for scale.

     A good tip is to microwave your soil before sowing, this sterilises it and stops any stray weeds popping up. I’d say about 25% of them germinated, which isn’t too bad really
