Penstemon

I'm going to move several Penstemons from the front to the back of a border to create room for lower growing bedding plants - should I prune the Penstemons and if so by how much?

    I leave the previous year's growth on to protect them from winter weather then in the spring I prune them down to an inch or two and they make new growth. They are sprouting now.
    Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

    Thanks Busy-Lizzie I can see new growth at the Base of the plants so I will copy you and prune them  :)
