Dropped my potted plant

I just bought a fiddle leaf fig tree today that the sog managed to get to. The pot is destroyed and there is no soil left. I can't buy any soil at the moment. What can I do?

    Hello Ness. I'm assuming it was the 'dog' who got to it? These plants are toxic to dogs so if he/she had a chew on it, it may be wise to just get your vet to give the dog a check up. Were you unable to save any of the compost from the broken pot? You do really need to get more compost as these plants can be tricky to keep at the best of times.

    The plant was in a small pot I had set it outside to drain. The wind must have knocked it down and the dog got just the pot. She didn't have any dirt around her muzzle. But I'll keep an eye on her I had no idea the plant was toxic to dogs. 
    The problem is that when the plant fell all the soil fell and im basically left with just the root. Is it okay for me to leave it like that overnight just till i get a chance to grab some potting soil tomorrow morning.

    Put the roots in a plastic bag to try to keep it from drying out, put the plant somewhere cool and shady, and get it potted up again soon as you can. No guarantees though.

    The fine roots mustn’t be allowed to dry out ... but they shouldn’t be drowned either.  Wrap them in wet newspaper and cling film or a plastic bag ... I think that’s your best option. 🤞

    Scrape up as much of the spilt compost as you can (it can’t have all just disappeared!), put that around the root ball of the plant in a plastic bag with the green plant bits poking out. Spray the roots and compost inside the bag with a little water so it is just damp but definitely not wet, exclude light from the plastic-wrapped root ball - stick it in a pot, put the plant in a dark place... the plant should survive like that overnight.
