    You can just spike using a garden fork, it's not a large area to cover and it's just to open up the soil a bit where it got compacted.
    If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

    Whether it does damage to the grass depends on how hard you do it ... use more effort on the barest areas, less where there’s more grass. No need to over-complicate it  😊

    By spike do you mean one of those rolling aerators? I'm with you on the raking - I think it will make a right mess of the fresh grass.

    Something tells me Oliver really wants a new toy to play with over the bank holiday weekend :D
