relocating Daffs

owd potterowd potter Posts: 979
I have many daffs dotted around that I want to lift and shift for a better display. Now that the flowers are fading what is the best way to achieve this?
Should I wait until leaves start to die back then lift and replant in new location immediately or lift and store then replant in Oct as normal?

Certainly wait until the leaves have died down (or almost if you need to see where they are). Personally I would replant straight away as being the easiest way to store the bulbs, but you could dry them off and keep until Autumn if you have a safe place to keep them. That would need to be cool and dark and dry.

I would water well then move them now, still in the green.  That way you can see where they are and plant round them.  Other than that, as Palustris says, let the leaves die down and then lift and store in a cool, dry place and plan to start planting them again in late August, early September as daffs start putting their new roots out quite early.

Either way, dead head and feed them to help build up the bulbs.
