Grit Sand

Must it be HORTICULTURAL grit sand one mixes in potting mix, or will ordinary (Travis Perkins) grit sand be ok (I have a surfeit of 20 bags from the landscaping of the garden)?

    sometimes, the stuff you get in builders' yards contains salt. I reckon if you rinse it thoroughly it'd be ok. Might be a bit of a faff though.

    Been using Builders sharp sand for years and never found any salt in any of it. Easy enough to tell, look closely at the stuff, if it contains tiny bits of sea shell then it is dredged sand and could be salty.
