A bit early for (runner?) beans is an understatement, even in your London microclimate.  I have pea plants ready to go out, gron in my conservatory, then moved to greenhouse, and finally, and I think this is very important for all your plants, harden them off outside, and as with most posters on here, runner beans started May, planted out around the first of June, and I am in the SE quite near the sea, so quite warm and sheltered.

Runners haven’t gone in yet. I planted out peas and dwarf beans. I’ve got French beans that are ready to plant out. I’ve sown broad beans direct outside and I was planning to sow my runners this weekend.
I’ve sown them outside in April the last 2 years and we had buckets of runners both years.

Its that warm micro climate in London that does it @Womble54. 😁

My veg are in raised beds against a south facing fence. It’s a nice little sun trap.
It feels more like July today! Enjoy the sun everyone.

I’m heading off on a work trip for 4 days. Given everything a water and tucked them up in the mini green house. Fingers crossed they’re all still alive when I get back. Much more worried about the seedlings than I was when I dropped the kids off with my sister.

Everything is alive and well. Looks like they didn’t mind the cold in the mini greenhouse over night. Think it got down to 5° from the forecast. Hope I can start planting things out soon. I’m potting things on and running out of space.

I’ve pulled up the first few radishes and earthed up my spuds. First few flowers on the strawberries.

I was worried it was too cold last night, forecast down to 4°, so I made a little heater for the mini greenhouse with a tea light and clay plant pot. It worked nicely, the temp in the greenhouse was 11° at 7am. Think I’ll keep doing this overnight till the weather warms up.

  • Thanks for the tea light idea @Womble54 will keep it in mind if my seedlings need extra warmth.

We’ve finally got some warm nights forecast for the next 2 weeks. 10°C minimums, so everything is now planted out in the garden and the minigreen house has been put away.

It was a real challenge keeping all the seedlings going with limited space. But worth it. The only plants I’ve bought are chillis and aubergines as my seeds never got going. Fingers crossed they all keep going now they’re planted out.
