Rose Cuttings - 7 Months Later

TimmyMagicTimmyMagic Posts: 135
I took some rose cuttings in September. Three of them have survived, but I'm not sure what to do next. I'm currently growing things from seed (first time ever!) and need more space inside. So is it okay to move the rose cuttings outside?

Also, two of the cuttings (photo's #1 and #2) have not shown any signs of growth. The stems are green and they have rooted as I tried giving a little pull on them. This is better than the ones that went brown and died on me, but it's 7 months on so when might they grow? Should I be giving them some feed other than water?

Thanks in advance.

One looks a lot better than the other one. Are you sure there are roots on the one that's not showing new growth. I would be tempted to tap it out of the pot and check for roots.

I took a couple of cuttings of a rose in autumn and they are doing really well now so I have them standing outside. I had potted them on in late February and both had good root systems. I think you need to check that on yours with no leaves. It might respond better with some fresh compost and a liquid seaweed feed.

I think there’s a bud swelling low down on the stem in the first pic  :)

I have just done as you suggested. Here's rose cutting #1:

So there are definitely roots... but I'm not sure how healthy they are. Does it look normal to you?

The soil was quite wet and fell apart when I tried to put it back in the pot. Should I move it to a bigger pot with some fresh soil?

Yes, you're right there is! But I believe it's been there for quite a while.
