Is this frost damage or overfeeding?

2oaktrees2oaktrees Posts: 160

Hi

With the weather up and down lately I noticed the new growth on my Camellia has turned black and shrivelled. I did however give it a good feed too and also added iron and a plant tonic before the leaf damage so I’m not sure what’s caused this damage.

Last 3 mornings we’ve had thick frost in the midlands which quickly thaws out with the morning sun. Has anyone else’s camellia been affected like this or is it the result of my over feeding?

Thanks all x

Looks like frost damage to me. Carefully clip off the burnt looking bits.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

The usual advice is not to plant camellias in a spot where they catch the morning sun as on frosty mornings a rapid thaw will damage the buds and blooms.
Move the camellia to a west facing spot and it should be fine 😊
