Well they're dammed if they do and dammed if they don't. Home owners have a responsibility to keep their hedges or plants from overhanging the pavements, (and I don't mean the original poster) which can cause an obstruction to visually impaired persons or people with pushchairs, wheelchairs etc. I believe Councils often get lumbered with people who have to serve community orders and they probably don't receive much training.

  • Well what can one say, it does pay to complain. I had a gentleman from the council come knocking on my door this morning. He wanted me to explain what happened, to which I told him the story. He knew who the people were, and he was most apologetic. They had no right whatsoever to do what they did, and it is my wall. And to leave whatever they cut back and swept up in a pile as well. He promised me that he would speak to them, and he will be in contact as soon as possible with the outcome to the matter. He then took further photos of the damage himself. I said that with areas being built up on, and also no street parking, whatever outside space there is I am trying to make it as attractive as possible, and it puts a smile on people's faces as they go by. I would never have my plants hanging down onto the pavement, risking people walking pass and getting caught in them.
I am not the only homeowner that has flowers growing from their walls, and are in council run areas. Anyway I feel that I have done what I felt was right, at least I got an apology. Happy Monday everyone, looks like it will be a lovely warm one later on this week.

you might have more come back with the damage done to your wall, rather than your plants being cut back unfortunately
