Dale Chihuly at Kew

https://www.kew.org/kew-gardens/whats-on/chihuly-at-kew-reflections-on-nature Fidgetbones mentioned this the other day. Here are a few photos from the last exhibition in 2005 to whet your appetites. The installations varied from quite subtle to really kitch last time so I would expect the same this time. There is also an evening light show version this time.

  • I don't really see why they had to bring him back...as if the artworld has run out of spectacle. But presumably he sold very many tickets last time and they need the extra revenue.

I'm not really a modern art fan, but I really like his chandeliers, the ones that look like they are made from lots of those long thin modelling balloons.

The one they had in the temperate house last time, looked like carnival glass bowls. I know his are hand blown, but I might try and see what  I could do with some  marigold carnival glass bowls and some wire. OH assures me that you can drill glass and fix it with a bolt.

I await the "Fidgetbones at Kew" exhibition in 2020...... :)
Will you be charging these kind of prices for your work ?

Well he keeps an army of glassblowers in work. I bet they get nothing like that per piece. He comes up with the idea, they make it.
I might develop something from this idea, although I was thinking of a branched wavy structure like a shrub rather than single flowers.

I like the clear ones in the grass but I don't like the threadworms.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

Part of me would have liked the evening show but apparently the car park is closed at night. As we drive down, straight down the M1 , then North Circular round to Kew, parking is essential.
