Holiday watering

Hi all am off on holiday on sun and was just wondering how to keep my seedlings moist ? Was wondering what methods you have tried ?

    I have sweatpeas in loo rolls about 12 and Cosmos in the natural pots you can buy

    I have left a wet tea towel underneath them,so fingers crossed!

    It's a difficult time of year to go on holiday but I'm doing it too - our annual spring holiday to Cornwall in early May.  I'm going to sow my seeds in the next few days, put the trays on capillary matting and hope for the best.  Good luck Ilona and have a lovely holiday.

    I have been known throughout take my pots of seedlings with me on holiday in the country (would be a bit more problematic on a plane!).

    Make sure the tea towel has at least one corner hanging over and into a bucket of water.  It will then wick water up to the seedlings.  Just on its own will not be enough and you risk coming home to crispy seedlings.

    Of course, if you have a handy young lad or girl close by....:| Works a treat for me!  And she does the main summer water for 2 weeks, lots of containers and baskets.  Of course, we give her a little something and then buy a quirky souvenir for her too - but it's worth it.

    I did that once.  Asked a supposedly bright teenager neighbour to water every day but she underestimated all and forgot some.  I came home to crispy blueberries and dead hanging baskets and wilted others.  Ever since I have moved all pots, baskets and troughs together and set them to be sprinkled on an automatic timer.  I come home to very happy pots.

    Wouldn't work for little seedlings tho.  They need a gentler system.

    Happy to report that my seedlings are fine.Wet tea towel worked a treat .Happy Easter all :-)
