Tree under 25 feet

Can someone please help, I am not green fingered, we are looking for a tree under 25 feet for our north facing front garden

    Do you know what kind of soil you have got?  Whereabouts roughly are you?

    solid clay, sand, good topsoil, mix of all three?

    good topsoil, it would be in an area from where we are having another large tree renoved.

    Lovely location!   
    Sorry to say that in those circumstances the removed tree will have taken all the nutrients from the soil over it's lifetime so you are going to have to dig in lots of manure or compost to beef it up ready for the new tree. As for choice, you could opt for a rowan, cherry tree if you like blossom, a magnolia stellata, ornamental pear - there's quite a choice of smallish trees. Try searching on the RHS website for small trees.

    Wonder if a Tamarisk would suit your location?  Have fun choosing.

    A good recommendation with the Tamarisk. I think Tamarix Ramosissima would be ideal with that type of location. Sorbus Aria, the Whitebeam will also do well there.

    Don't close this now, give us a clue as to what type of tree you'd like.  Flowers?  Leaves?  All year colour?  Pretty?

    What was there, and why did you remove it?

    We are having removed a large spruce tree, it is a land mark for our property but it has become to big, roots have started to damage the drive, Don't have a preferance as to look, but wish to have some thing which will look great and will be remembered in time, if possible.
