Reviving a Hydrangea

There’s a hydrangea in my garden that has previously been cut right back to the stump but is now sprouting again. I’d like to revive it. Any tips for encouraging growth and flowers?

TIA

  • This looks like a hydrangea to me...give it a good feed and mulch, looks healthy.

Ha I’m definitely a novice gardener so I’d go with you on it being a hydrangea!

Also looks like a hydrangea to me. However, i watched an episode of The Great British Garden Revival last night on the iPlayer which had a lengthy piece on rhodies, including fixing them up. It's episode 3 of the current series

It will grow back eventually, but unlikely to flower this year. Try to pull out the weeds around its base and then lay a very thick layer of compost or bark chip to help hold in moisture.

Cut off the dead stubs of wood, other than that you don't have to do much other than wait.
