I didn’t know the Irish were so fond of custard creams, haven’t you heard of chocolate hob nobs?  :D

Well while we are considering the naming of sweet treats, what about Marshmallow? Whats that got to do with a marsh or a mallow?

Pansy - the biscuits were named after Garibaldi who was a leader in the moves to Italian unification in the mid 1800s.  Their invention coincided with a visit by him to the UK where he was a popular figure.

Nollie and Floralies - plenty of very ordinary gardens here full of very boring, standard plants but there are also pockets of horticultural adventure.  I'm lucky enough to have found Asphodèle, a Vendée wide club for plant lovers and gardeners and they organise plant swaps between members, a plant fair open to all and regular visits to gardens of interest which include members.  They can happily sprout botanical names and are keen to share cuttings, division and seedlings for all sorts of things you don't find in the local garden centres.

There are some good nurseries too but pricey.

Interesting, Pansyface, I didn’t know they had proper botanical origins. That sounds brilliant, Obelixx, lucky you. Perhaps I need to start a similar club here, although I suspect I would be the only member. There is one good garden centre on the coast run by a Dutch couple, I make the effort to go to a couple of times a year. They have a good selection of shrubs and a few good perennials in the summer, but they are still largely constrained by their market and are currently drowning in a sea of bedding.
