Hollyhock rust

These are my hollyhocks-is there any hope or shall I just pull them out? I grew them from seed last year, they’ve already been cut back once this spring ☹️. Thanks

    No hope I'm afraid.
I gave up with Hollyhocks for that reason.
How can you lie there and think of England

One good flowering is what you get then they rust like a Mk 1 Ford Capri. It’s such a pity but it’s the end I’m afraid.

Take the philosophical approach and look upon it as an opportunity to try something new.
  • Darn, I knew it... oh well, maybe some delphiniums. Thanks both for replying!

Are they ok in their first year?

I've just planted one yesterday for the first time.

Mine are not OK in the first year, I've had rust on the first true leaves from seed

    In the sticks near Peterborough
  • Same with mine nutcutlet, no good from the start-but think it depends on the garden/conditions, some people are lucky with them.
