Dahlia and Gladioli leaving in the soil?

Is it alright to leave Dahlia and Gladioli corms in the soil when they have died off as one does with Daffodils?

Depends on the soil and your climate. Freezing clay will kill them. Well drained gritty or sandy soil and they will probably survive unless you have really bad freezing weather.

Slugs may eat your emerging dahlias before you can even see the shoots.

I never lift dahlias.  I live on the edge of the West Midlands so not in a particularly warm part of the UK.  I have good soil, that drains fairly well.  I rarely lose any but I would rather risk the odd loss than go to the bother of lifting and storing.  If I do lose one it's usually in its first year.  Some have been in for 10 years since we moved in the house.  It's really up to you whether you risk it or not.  I don't grow gladioli so can't help with that one I'm afraid.

I have left Gladioli in for 2-3 seasons but they tend to get overcrowded and weed infested (I grow mine on the Allotment for cut flower) so I lifted them at the end of last year & will replant the best ones soon in a new spot.
