Peat free seed sowing compost?

I’m struggling to find peat free seed sowing compost locally, can anyone suggest a good brand I can buy online?

    John Innes are loam based, I like to use them a lot  :)

    John Innes recipe includes peat. I use coir to germinate seeds and grow until they need pricking out. It is light and fluffy allowing good root development. It contains no nutrients so if you’re going to leave seedlings in beyond getting their first true leaves I’d water with a very weak seaweed solution.

    In this year’s seed compost trials conducted by Gardening Which the highest scoring peat free compost was that from Waitrose and Partners.

    I used coire whilst waiting for my peatles compost delievery..  I got some eventually from B&Q called Verve.. I am not impressed with it at £4.17p a bag its dry and coarse and not as good as the coire. Have to use it now but disappointed..

    I've never found any peat free compost to be as good as peat based compost.

    Me too, Hostafan. I like Levington Pro M3 compost, but it is hard to get in garden centres. Some nurseries that produce their own plants may have it.  My mum orders a pallet load once a year and we share it.

    Ireland burns millions of tons of peat every year in their power stations, so I'm not going to be guilt tripped about the few kilos I use every year.

    I just sieve peat free mpc (not one with extra 'enrichment') and get good germination rates. 100% on the seeds so far this year.

    Hi All

    If you cant get peat free compost then you could use "Haskins Multi purpose" Compost.It is not peat free but uses a reduced peat blend. Some council tips sell compost that is made from recycled garden waste that they collect
