How deep should I plant the corms? Some say to plant them deep and others say just below surface. I'm confused

    Quite deep. If they are tall ones, like lucifer, they fall over if they are planted too shallow. You'll get away with shallower planting for the shorter ones. All of them tend to develop new corms above the old so they move upwards. If you plant them right at the surface, they may not be perennial. I tend to put them in at least 6 to 8 inches deep - more for the really big ones.

    Thanks Raisingirl, that makes sense. Yes they are crocosmia lucifer so will plant them deep.

    My Lucifer are deep but still tend to fall over, so may need a bit of support later in the summer. They are beautiful plants.

    I agree, they are beautiful. Going to be planting them with purples and yellows in the sunny border.

    Crocosmia Lucifer is a great plant for back of boarder with a exsotic flower. But it can be very evasive and will thow up shoots everywhere in your garden. I normally divide mine every few years to reduce the root ball size and this will stop it invading other areas
