Efficient way to remove membrane and grass

Hi all,

In our garden (which was originally bark chip before we moved in) is a weed membrane, where now grass and weeds have grown through.

We wish to rip out this membrane and turn over the soil to lay new grass lawn / turf.

Our question is; is there an efficient (non-back-breaking) way of pulling out this membrane? You can see with a tug it tears away and lifts the unplanted grass/weeds but it takes quite a bit of effort to pull up over a large plot.

Any advice would be much appreciated in terms of tools / techniques that'd make this easier.

thanks.

There is no easy way to remove the membrane once grass and weeds have started to grow through it.  You'll need to try to strip the growth from on top and then remove the membrane.
