Battery or mains powered hedge trimmer?

Afternoon all,

I am trying to work out whether or not to go for a battery powered hedge trimmer or stick with mains power. The cables drive me mad, but not 100% whether a battery powered one would be up to the job?

I have read this review of the Gtech hedge trimmer and wondered if any of you have either used one or can recommend any others before I buy one?

Many thanks,

Dave.

I have a Bosch battery hedge trimmer and it is far and away better than my old corded one. Battery charge lasted long enough to do both sides and top of the 50  feet long Hawthorn hedge which we used to have. Charging is quick too.
No knowledge of the Gtech one, but the strimmer one of theirs which we have is very poor, underpowered and not very strong.

Thanks, Palustris, I will check out the Bosch one. I just worried that battery wouldn't give the same amount of power. Pretty impressive run times then too if it can do both sides and top of a 50-foot hedge.

Boss says it last about 45 to 50 minutes which is all that it took to whip over the hedge. Also found it brilliant for cutting down swathes of herbaceous tops in Autumn.

I have VonHaus 2 in 1 hedge and grass trimmer, bought last year for £30, I am very happy with that. I used it to cut Leylandii hedge in our previous house and also some light trimming of shrubs and grass edges. It won't cut thick branches. The battery lasts approx. 45 minutes. I guess it would be too weak for someone used to more professional/mains powered tools but for small garden and my use it is perfect.

The one thing I would say, having had several battery operated garden tools in the past is that you must keep them fully charged all year round, otherwise the batteries just go dead and they seem to be expensive to replace.  We're going back to corded tools.

Petrol hedge trimmers are not that expensive these days. No cords and will run as long as you have petrol for them!

I found the Petrol one a bit heavy on my arthritic neck.

I'd thought about petrol DampGardenMan, but heard can be tricky to get started. The VonHaus sounds like a bargain Edhelka! Thanks.
