Close planting to inhibit weeds

  • i am new to gardening and since creating my beds I planted shrubs and underneath sedums for ground cover to keep the soil in place and control weeds. the best way is to hoe them when they small I found and it means no bending just back and forth every 10 days and I leave the weeds to de compose to enrich the soil further. I love sedums as they have a shallow roots and you can easily divide them to cover the ground.

@josusa47 , if you've got empty ground and bindweed, the method of training the young bind weed shoots up a short cane, then after a week or two sliding down the shoots into a plastic bag and a careful squirt of weedkiller inside works wonders.
I've noticed only in the last couple of days that bindweed is popping up everywhere. Sad to say, you never completely get rid of it.

I have arranged to leave Graham with my niece when I go, she is 21 so he should be fine but if not she will make alternative arrangements I am sure.

I have read this method described many times but can't picture it.  Can anyone provide a link to a video, because I can't figure out what to do with the plastic bag, or bottle as some recommend.  Do I take out the cane first and stuff the foliage into the bag?

@debs64 nice to hear you have made arrangements for Graham, but it was more directed at anyone who would rehome, to really think hard about it.
It seems a noble thing to do but a real lifelong and beyond commitment. Not for everyone.

Sorry @josusa47. Me off topic again.
I did what Lizzie27 explained. But Good luck if you have neighbours with uncontrolled Bindweed. Though I think once you get it under control on your plot and have an eye for it, you can manage it, so it (hopefully) won't be a big problem in the longer term.
Fingers crossed you may get new neighbours or they might do something about it sometime....
    I vote/will you new neighbours :)
