Plants for unimproved poor clay soil

    Limnanthes, the poached egg plant, self seeds on my clay soil and does very well.
    It did on ours too - too well, it took over! Took two or three years to knock it back to size.

    The sun ones get a bit of mildew if they dry out for long periods so I either cut off the affected leaves or pull out the whole plant. There's always plenty of seedlings so I pick the ones with the most attractive foliage. But then come to think of it the shade ones get mildew too but it's not a problem as the flowers will havefinished by then.
    Alan I have nigella already and you're right it does really well . Thanks for linaria suggestion.
    Poached egg a nice subtle colour to go with the blues, Alan.
