Japanese quince

Evening all. I think I have one of these in my garden where I have lived for about 5 years. I think its flowered only very rarely about 2 or 3 little flowers per year - its about a meter tall. and seems to grow very very slowly. Its in shade under some large maple trees and quite a damp area for most of the year except summer. I would like to try to reinvigorate and wondered if anyone has any ideas - im happy to move it or do anything else that will galvanise some activity! I think my mum has one that is a blaze of colour this week! (Its in sun)

Many thanks

Dan

The shade and damp might be the problem. I have one growing out of paving slabs in full sun and it flowers profusely.

Mine is hanging over the edge of a North facing rockery. I pay very little attention to it. Some years it flowers poorly and other years like this one, it is spectacular. The soil veers towards acidic. I just chop bits off after it flowers if it is stretching too far.

They need pruning straight after flowering, which promotes more flowers the following year.  Could you dig it up and move into the sunshine perhaps?
