Lawn fungus

Can anyone identify this lawn fungus and tell me how to get rid of it? Selective weedkiller controls it but never eradicates it completely. I suspect it may be caused by bird droppings.

It’s Dog lichen which is more of an algae than a fungus. Weed killer will have no effect.

It thrives in poor conditions so the answer is to improve the health and growing conditions of your lawn and the Dog lichen will disappear.  Nothing to do with bird droppings.

  • That’s a great help. Thanks for replying. The lawn is quite waterlogged (west of Scotland) so I’ll try and improve the drainage.

Hi Rachael, it's quite easy to deal with it. If you want any general advice on improving the lawn I'd be happy to help.

Get the lawn scarified then treated with iron this next couple of weeks if you can as a start
  • That’s brilliant! Thanks.
