Keeping tabs

I keep every single plant label and I have them sub divided into type for example perennial, shrubs, bulbs etc, then they are alphabetically ordered within the sections. I even have a spreadsheet.

This is all good and well (I have too much time on my hands) But I then forget where I placed them.

I keep all the labels ... they’re all in a shoebox on top of a bookcase ... that’s as organised as they get 😉

I left mine  in a box  in the  storage  'coffin ' in the garden.  Snails  or something  got  in and ate the pictures  off, leaving  the cardboard.  I still  have  some  plastic ones  though.

This is the extent of my record-keeping - take photos with my ipad and label using the edit feature:

Thats a very good idea, I do take pics when it's looking good but I could use them foe reference
  • I keep my plant labels in an old metal biscuit box.  Over the last few years I've kept a large green notebook, mainly for my allotment  plans and harvest records but have also started to list what plants I have bought and from where, in there.

I have a huge list of plants planted. It's depressing to read, too many are no longer with us.

I keep all labels in a storage box in envelopes in roughly alphabetical order. I write the date I got them on the back. Any dead plants have labels noted 'died'. I also hand write a garden diary every day, listing what I've done, dug up, planted and in which bed.  @Nollie - that's a brilliant idea with the photos.

I wrote myself a program that allows you to draw your garden and your beds, and then add plants to each bed, marking the position as accurately (or otherwise!) as you choose. A chore to set it up (am still, slowly, doing this for our new garden), but it does mean you don't forget where you put something. Though, as NutCutlet says, it can sometimes be depressing reading!
