Yarrow gone mad!

I planted 2 types of yarrow in my wild/grassy type border. Cerise queen is behaving admirably, but the Parkers golden has gone crazy, sending runners galore, so I’ve made the decision to remove it all before it took over. I’ve left Cerise Queen to see how it fares as there are no runner coming off it. Great to have some more planting space, but a warning to others on the Parkers Golden variety... it’s a beast!!! I removed this lot from about a dozen plants I grew from seed last year!

    It certainly is, I got mine from Parker’s when I first started this garden, still turns up. 
    The shorter prettier ones are lovely though and the bees love them all.

    I planted it for that reason Lyn, along with verbena, centranthus, centaurea, echinacea etc.. it’s a mush mash of butterfly/bee plants combined with grasses, which I’m extending this year. I will be shifting a lot around this autum as it’s got a bit jumbled, but yes, no more Parkers Golden... she says with a wry smile knowing it’s going to come back! A few weeks ago I was stood admiring how well it had done lol! I’ve laid it all out as so many ladybirds.. the bed is crawling with them, so at least it did me that favour over winter! 😬

    One to avoid, thanks for the tip, Flinster. I found the Salvia Black and Blue, the tall big leaved type that I planted last year has done the same. I found long root runs up to 3ft away from the plant. Didn’t know it did that. Have bought some small plants of  Amistad, similar type, and wondering if it will do the same and if I dare plant it!

    My Black and Blue hasn’t spread out from the clump I planted, I do cuttings every year to replant,

    Interesting, Lyn, mine came through the winter ok, no need for cuttings (just as well since I didn’t take any) so is clearly getting its feet under the (water) table.
