Can anyone tell me what this is

i have moved into a new house. I know this has been eaten badly but can anyone tell me what plant this is

    Looks like Viburnum Tinus which has been attacked by Viburnum beetle.

    but those white lumps don't look like Viburnum flower buds or berries to me

    Those leaves and buds don't look like my V Tinus. They look more like bay (Laurus nobilis) to me.

    My money's on bay.  A Mediterranean plant with aromatic leaves you can use in cooking.

    Another vote for bay. Possibly being chomped by vine weevils, judging by the notched edges to the leaves.
