Pond liner

Hi, we’ve moved into our house and the previous owners had a pond put in but it keeps draining out and it’s very dirty so we’ve decided to empty it all out and reline it. The pond is a basic concrete rectangle with lining, it also has a fountain area off the one side going into the pond. The problem is the fountain area is concreted in so theres no way i can remove it to overlay the lining on that side of the pond. The other 3 sides i can easily remove the stones and overlay the lining but i’m puzzled on how i’m going to do the fountain side? Thanks for your help in advance :)

Yes thanks for your response, excuse the mess all needs a good clean. I’ve attached an image for you.

It looks to have a waterfall feature but rather cracked. I would take that out and start afresh.

    Hi K67
it’s hard to see from the pic but the waterfall goes underneath the pot, we’ve tested it and it seems to work fine and doesn’t appear to be leaking out any water so we aren’t too worried about that however it may be a future project when we have some more money. For the meantime we just want to get the pond bit looking nice for summer but just puzzled on how to attach the lining inside the pond on the fountain side without taking the whole thing out and redoing it.
    Thanks

If you want to replace the liner, I can't see any alternative to demolishing the lower end of the waterfall where it overhangs the pool.  As an interim measure, you might try lifting the slabs and just putting a new liner inside the existing one.  If you can contrive a way of holding it back under the outfall while the pond is filling, the water pressure should hold it in place once it's full.

We don’t really want to demolish it at the moment, we might in the future but for now we’re just trying to make it looks nice while we do the rest of the house. going over the other liner does seem like the best option at the moment, just trying to think what the best way of holding back that side would be. Thanks for your help :)

I agree with previous comments.  It's going to be extremely difficult to fit the liner properly without having full access to all four sides.  It's difficult to see from the photo just how far the waterfall outlet overhangs the pond so it may be possible to tuck the liner under the lip until you can do the job properly.  You'll have to accept that it won't look very good until then.

Once emptied you will be able to get in the pond for a better look. if you don't want to lift the slabs or touch the waterfall I would  line over existing as suggested, get some water in to settle it and cut it around the edge then use a waterproof adhesive/silicone to stick it in place.
The other option is to try and screw a batten around the edge to fix the liner to and silicone over the fixings if necessary.

Thanks, i’m going to finish emptying it all and get the plants out and take a good look at it properly. The slabs are easy to move as they aren’t attached so it will be held down on 3 sides so it will only be the one side that isn’t. Hopefully this will be fine once the water is in and will hold it in place. I will also take a look at some waterproof silicone, thank you!
