Raised get bed

I'm in the process of making a raised bed well OH is😁 It is quite shaded where it is, advice on what to grow please.

    Yes sorry.I'm looking at veg potato carrot etc just a bit concerned about the shade

    This is timely, the sowing season is in full swing.  The best vegetables to grow are the ones you most like to eat!  Unless your bed is in deep shade all day, most hardy vegetables should be OK.  Potatoes are almost foolproof, as long as they are watered during dry spells.  Kale, broad beans and beetroot are fairly undemanding, tomatoes need a bit more attention.  Carrots, I have learned from this forum, are  for the more experienced, they are fussy about their soil.  I have never succeeded with carrots.  If you grow tomatoes from seed, they need to be started under glass, a sunny windowsill is quite adequate.  Or you can buy tomato plants.  Is there anything you could do to improve the light level, such as cutting back shrubs, or replacing fence with trellis?

    Leafy plants, such as lettuces, spinach, purple sprouting broccoli, cabbages are most tolerant of shade. Root veg eg, beetroot, potatoes, carrots need some sun but not all the time. Tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, courgettes like sun.

    Thanks all.Will give potatoes lettuce and brocolli a go.Will give carrots a miss then.All trial and error for a beginner like me early days.Unfortunately the side the fence is on is my neighbours so can't do a lot about that we will see.Got greenhouse for toms cucumber and peppers.This is the first time I've done any of this so learning as I go. Fingers crossed thanks again 😁😁

    Give carrots a go! You only lose a few seed, but they might love your soil! 😃

    Yes I shall give them a go like you said it's only the price of a pack of seeds.I can't believe what I've done in a couple of months to be honest.Bedding plants all coming on lovely enough to do mine my mums and my daughters. 😁Bored now so a dabble with vegetables

    Lettuce will welcome a bit of shade, so will be happy. If you like using chives in your food, they will grow happily in shade too.
    Have a go with carrots too, but don't add lots of nutrients to the area if you do. Mine grow in pots usually, and they don't have full sun where I have them. 
    It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
