If that is so, surely planting loads of foxgloves would be good long term slug control?
  • Some Diseases that May Plague Foxglove. Because foxglove grow in moist soil, and in partial shade, they are prone to fungus and rot. Anthracnose: This is a fungus disease causes brown spots with purple edges on the leaves. The spots turn black in the center, leaves become yellow, dry and fall off.

The wild foxgloves I see can be anywhere from deciduous woodland to open Lakeland fell in full sun. I think they're very adaptable to sun/shade levels.

What I haven't seen is foxgloves in wet conditions.  I am not an expert and am only surmising from limited knowledge of plants but a lot of experience being out in the wilds. I suspect level of watering could be the issue. I've certainly had plants in pots look bad in a similar way due to over watering. BTW I heard that's more likely to be the case than under watering.
  • I too know for a fact that snails are eating my foxgloves as I've seen this with my own eyes

Slugs devour my foxgloves. I've had to plant them in tall pots to even get leaves started. I tried putting them in the ground for a week, when they were big plants, but they didn't stand a chance. Back into the pots they went. I can't get them to self seed - not a chance.
  • Every forum I've looked at they have all stated that slugs/snails hate foxglove so it's good to know this is happening to others as I thought I was going gaga!! Problem is what to do about it?

Try growing something else or growing them in pots.
  • In my area the water was over permitted amount of Metaldehyde. There are 3 types of slug pellets, here is a link to understanding them. We go out at night and pick them up. Here i a link explaining a little about them  https://www.google.com/search?q=what+is+in+slug+pellets&rlz=1C1VDKB_en-GBGB928GB928&oq=what+is+in+slug+pellets&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i22i30l9.21207j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
