Some Diseases that May Plague Foxglove. Because foxglove grow in moist soil, and in partial shade, they are prone to fungus and rot. Anthracnose: This is a fungus disease causes brown spots with purple edges on the leaves. The spots turn black in the center, leaves become yellow, dry and fall off.
The wild foxgloves I see can be anywhere from deciduous woodland to open Lakeland fell in full sun. I think they're very adaptable to sun/shade levels.
What I haven't seen is foxgloves in wet conditions. I am not an expert and am only surmising from limited knowledge of plants but a lot of experience being out in the wilds. I suspect level of watering could be the issue. I've certainly had plants in pots look bad in a similar way due to over watering. BTW I heard that's more likely to be the case than under watering.
Slugs devour my foxgloves. I've had to plant them in tall pots to even get leaves started. I tried putting them in the ground for a week, when they were big plants, but they didn't stand a chance. Back into the pots they went. I can't get them to self seed - not a chance.
Every forum I've looked at they have all stated that slugs/snails hate foxglove so it's good to know this is happening to others as I thought I was going gaga!! Problem is what to do about it?
