Anyone recognise these seeds?

At least I assume they are seeds and not some incubating insect alien! Noticed a fair few of them in amongst my beds today, bit smaller than 1cm long, reddish, can’t think what or where they might have come from:

At that size, they would have come from a large shrub or tree.  Cherry stones?
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Hi Bob, thanks, no I don’t think they are cherry stones, they are quite soft, can split with a thumbnail to reveal white fleshy interior. Never seen them before, just appeared on the top of mulch in quite large quantities, only trees nearby are walnut, loquat, fig and pomegranate, non of which seem to fit the bill. Perhaps I will pot a few up and wait and see!
