Magnolia advice please

debs64debs64 Posts: 5,184
Hi all. Watched GW last night and want another magnolia now. I mostly garden in pots but I think Leonard messel May be appropriate for a very large pot and it looks gorgeous! Any advice on best way to look after it? They are not cheap plants so happy to spend a bit extra on special soil, feed etc if necessary. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks

They were lovely, but so big. I have a puzzle over magnolia. Been in this house three years now, have a magnolia ( told called susan) that flowers a beautiful mid pink with white edges. Opposite my house is one that always flowers a week earlier than mine and for three years was almost white, this year a definite pink! And mine is a darker pink. I wonder why the colour change?

@purplerallim My white magnolia stellata definitely had a pink tinge to it this year so that's very interesting to hear of others.  I'm assuming it must have something to do with last year's heatwave?

I was wondering about that too @Lizzie27 It seems to have had more repercussions than first thought.
