  Any idea if Symphytum would do well under shrubs in the shade.
  I have an area where birds and cats flatten everything before the ground is covered and wondered if this would work? Or possibly too invasive?

  It does do well in shade such as woodland but it can get very excited if happy so best to buy the sterile form if you can.  Crocus have it but so will other nurseries if you google it - https://www.crocus.co.uk/plants/_/symphytum--uplandicum-bocking-14/classid.2000026389/
