Plant ID - Should it stay or should it go?!

Anyone got half a clue what this might be? It's one of the few things in this garden that looks like it's there on purpose... mostly the previous owners just left us with bindweed! Wondering if it's worth trying to salvage this while taking up the gravel 😂

    It looks like a phlox (the herbaceous perennial type). But it's hard to be absolutely sure from just the young leaves.
    Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

    Ahh thank you, that sounds quite promising. I'll stick it in a spare pot and see what it does 🤣👍

    Looks a bit like Persicaria.
    Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

    Ah the plot thickens! Thanks for the input.. I'm intrigued by it now!

    While sorting through the gravel mess I've found quite a few really old, faded plant labels. I think somebody once had it quite nicely planted up but it's not been maintained for a long time.

    I would do as you say @red_carbon pot it up see what happens I thought phlox at first but is difficult to be sure at this early stage. If after growing it on you like it keep it, if it is a plant but you don't like it pass it on, if its a weed chuck it away 😊

    Post another pic when it flowers, then we'll be able to have a better go at an ID.
