Deutzia Raspberry Sundae

Jetta2Jetta2 Posts: 3
Hello. I am restricted to growing as much as I can in pots and have been given a Deutzia Raspberry Sundae. Could someone please advice what soil to use for this plant?

Many Thanks

What a lovely shrub, I'd not seen that one before.
There's some info here from the RHS which indicates they're not fussy about soil conditions.
I don't have any deutzia, but would imagine that a John Innes no.2 or 3 compost would suit. I'd use a mix of roughly 60% JI 2 or 3, 20% ordinary multi-purpose compost and 20% grit just to open up the JI and let it breathe a bit.
You may know, but John Innes compost is not a brand but a recipe and various brands are available at most garden centres.

Hi Pete. Thank you for your response. I need some JI for a Sarcococca that I have purchased so will pick up some grit as well :)

I've a feeling I'll be getting one or 2 of those - a lovely plant by the look of it.
Thanks for posting the question as I'd never been aware of it

Yes shrubs that don't get huge are always good for small gardens.
    I want one too!

The Sarcococca Purple stem is another smaller shrub and perfect for the shady side of my back yard. Smells lovely at the moment.
  • I have a Deutzia Raspberry Sunda in a container for a second year and while plenty of lush leaves no flowers at all or any sign of any arriving. Am I doing something wrong?
